Merriya Talent - Kawaii Contest

Description

This is for :iconkawaiicontest: round 6! Merr and Vic have both made it. I've been all messed up lately and completely forgot to take care of my ladies! So here is Merriya (I wanted to try out Naoko Takeuchi's style. Maybe it's risky to change styles so close to the end of the contest? Ah, but it was fun!)

Questions for this round:
How did your senshi discover their talent, and what do they enjoy about it?

Merriya didn't so much discover her talent; she has just been doing it for a long time. Before her grandmother left Pakistan for England, she, along with Merr's mother, taught Merriya how to embroider when she was very young. As a child, the Pakistani girl was often ill and spent a lot of time at home. Despite her absences, her homework was always done on time and her grades were excellent, leaving her with a lot of time to burn. Embroidery was a simple way to give Merriya something to do to while away the time the rest of her peers spent in school. Personally, the intelligent and clever girl enjoyed doing something that kept her hands busy and gave her an excuse to listen to the wisdom of her mother and grandmother. This time that the three of them spent together is probably what molded her into such a respectful young woman as well as give her a carriage and set of that read as elegance to outsiders. Friends who know her well realize that, while she may come off to strangers at first glance as pretentious, she is very down to earth and kind hearted.

It was difficult for Merriya when her grandmother departed her homeland, but she took it upon herself to continue making her proud from afar. As she grew older, the young girl gained an appreciation for making clothes. Her skills impressed her mother, so once a month the two of them would go to the bookstore and get a fashion magazine, or book. She started to become very fascinated with Victorian and Rococo dress. This led the poison senshi as we know her now to her talent at making costumes and lolita styled clothing. It took her love of elegant, but dated fashion and melded it with a more contemporary and comfortable style.

The aspiring fashionista enjoys the beauty of various patterns and materials she gets to work with when sewing. She finds it extremely satisfying to be able to wear an ensemble that she spends a long time perfecting. It's even more satisfying when she receives compliments from strangers on the street, and people in school on Fridays. (The school has a uniform, but on Fridays students are allowed to wear their own clothes.)
